My son was robbed after the Manchester United game at Newlands today. They took his cell phone. According to the police, he was not the only one and they told him many people were robbed at the game today. So much for 2010!!! This will be the last time i send my kids to any game - be it at Newlands or anywhere else. Its disgusting. I cant for one minute think why anyone would want to visit this country.

Honestly,
I'm shocked at how ignorant some people are. Are you just constantly looking for a reason to bitch and moan?
First of all, has it every occurred to you that your son might have lost or dropped his phone?! It happens all the time!!! It's so easy to blame careless behaviour at these events on "theft". Then we don't have to explain ourselves to daddy and mommy. If your son can't take the necessary precautions to make sure his phone is safe in the first place then you are right, you shouldn't be sending him to games by himself.
Secondly, citizens carrying weapons around?!? Really?! Ok, because that will solve all your problems! They steal so let's give them guns to shoot each other freely? WOW!
THIRDLY, the SAME TYPE of people?!?!?!? What kinda racist shit have you been fed? Crime is not a matter of race. Thinking that black on black crime is better than "mixed race" crime is DISGUSTING! You right, in SA it doesn't matter who you are, the level of crime applies to all races BECAUSE ALL RACES STEAL... NOT JUST BLACK PEOPLE!
Please crawl back in your holes and stay there. You people disgust me! Especially you Berenice. You disgusting attitude about your own country does not serve the goals it is trying to achieve. If you don't like living in SA, stop bitching and moaning, get out. SA is better off without people like you.
Was it always like this?

And I thought we had it pretty bad in the US!! Has the crime and violence always been like this in South Africa?
Law abiding citizens need to be allowed to carry weapons. When it gets to a certain point where police are targeted and the state no longer has the monopoly on violence, it is up to the people to provide the security for themselves. The difference I see between the US and South Africa is that in the US, the crime is far more often to be perpetrated BY the same type of people who are most victimized by it. i.e. black on black crime is way more common than the other way around (white on black, black on white). In South Africa, it seems it doesn't matter WHO you are, you've got a target on your back.
EXpat, NZ I am an ex South African and I'm not proud to call my self an South Afican. Because there is no such thing anymore. Ek is jammer dat Crime Expo SA sa toe gemaak het, al was dit fraud, dit was nog steeds die waarheid. Die mense wat dit veroorsaak het moet sleg voel. Once again as SAcans we are not standing together, a, what was I thinking we never have and never will.I really hope that CESA will return sortly. Certain people must have started worring because it was growing and attracting... Read more/Comment

Getting behind the statistics to offer a sober and sobering account of the scale of the crime problem and its evolution, the book describes how government has sometimes sought to deal with the crisis and sometimes sought to deny its existence. The book ends with some suggestions of what needs to be done to deal with this scourge. Buy
