Johannesburg - The Gauteng Provincial Government and stakeholders in the business sector have set up a Joint Task Team to combat aggravated business robberies.

"The Joint Task Team comprises senior government officials and business representatives.

"It has been set up to look at practical measures that both parties can implement jointly to prevent aggravated business robberies, especially robberies against banks," Provincial Government spokesperson Thabo Masebe said on Thursday.

Mr Masebe said the idea of a joint team to intensify the fight against business robberies emanated from Premier Mbhazima Shilowa's meeting with the Ministers of Justice and Constitutional Development Brigitte Mabandla and Safety and Security Charles Nqakula at the recent Cabinet Lekgotla, according to the Gauteng Provincial Government.

The province then met with leaders of banking institutions and discussed solutions to the challenges.

Mr Masebe said responses from the industry had been positive, with banks promising to commit resources to tackle the criminals.

"The team will meet again early next week to discuss better surveillance around businesses so that the law enforcement agencies can catch these criminals even before some of the crimes take place," Mr Masebe said.

It is good to see what the effort the country does in the side of fighting crime in South Africa.True that criminals no longer target to rob bank by just going in the bank but also they(criminals) have also implimented new strategies that works fast, without them being present @ the bank....but it amazed me to see that South African Police Service are way on top of the criminals by coming up with new strategies to beat them(criminals) on thier own game,we are behind you(SAPS) to help identify people doing fraud by using technology to steal other people's property...siya si qhenya kani

The crime situation will never get resolved. Lets use the example of a child at school who is a bully. He grows up and gets a job but still remains a bully. He bullies his way to the top of his company and is now running the company. Will he suddenly change. Of course not. He will still bully. ...

A country at war with itself: Antony Altbeker

Getting behind the statistics to offer a sober and sobering account of the scale of the crime problem and its evolution, the book describes how government has sometimes sought to deal with the crisis and sometimes sought to deny its existence. The book ends with some suggestions of what needs to be done to deal with this scourge. Buy
